Our Philosophy

The philosophy on shooting at Scottsdale Firearm Training is based on accuracy, self-defense, and safety. This focus is a theme that will recure during the training.

This is the first area of focus. The reason for this is the environment that we live in today, the necessity for extreme handgun accuracy has never been greater. Whether you are defending your home or are at the movies, the need to place an accurate shot to stop an active shooter is paramount. The legal ramifications of quickly firing 15 shots at your attacker can be life-altering. You are responsible for every round fired and if you miss the attacker and hit an innocent bystander, the results could be worse than you would like to imagine. In addition, whether it is self-defense, target shooting or just shooting with friends, being accurate carries the day. Remember the old saw “you cannot miss fast enough to make a hit.”

Self-defense is much more than just having a firearm and knowing how to shoot. The best gunfight you can ever have been in is the one you do not get involved in. Avoidance is one of the keys to self-defense. Living a situational-aware lifestyle is another area that will be discussed as part of self-defense. Many other touchpoints are also discussed in the self-defense area.

Firearm safety is the most important aspect of shooting. Whether you are interested in self-defense, target shooting or shooting at the range with friends, the only way any of these shooting activities can happen is if the safety rules are followed.

Safety Rules

Treat all guns as though they are always loaded.

Never point your gun at anything that you are not willing to destroy!

Keep your finger OFF the trigger and outside of the trigger guard until you are on target and have made the decision to shoot!

Always be sure of your target and beyond!
All the classes taught at SFT are based on a corporate style that is encouraging and fun.
In addition to this focus is the belief that target shooting is fun and an event that should be enjoyed. 99.99% of your time shooting is going to be on a range, so enjoy this time with your friends and family.
